Anime Review: MASHLE: Magic and Muscles

Hello again, all!

Today’s review tackles a show that I hadn’t had the desire to watch for a while, but took a shot and watched it.  MASHLE: MAGIC AND MUSCLES is definitely a unique show, but it’s got enough of a following that it must be good, right?

Here’s a quick synopsis:

In this world, magic is prevalent, and almost everyone in it can use magic to some degree – except our protagonist, Mash Burnedead, who was born without a mark (basically, has no magic potential).  He instead trains his body to the max, day in and day out, at the behest of his father, who hopes this is enough to protect him from the sinister underbelly of the magic world.  But an event endangering his happy family life forces Mash to enroll in the magic-centric Easton Academy and try to become a Divine Visionary – a person deemed as one of God’s chosen.  Will Mash be able to succeed in his studies and live in peace?

Spoilers start now.

Update Diary: Hell/Dolls (January 19, 2025)

Today, another update on the webnovel to-be!  I’ve been working very hard on progressing the novel in my free time, though it may mean that my reviews are starting to become harder to complete…

In any case, here’s the current stats on the story:

Current Chapter: 9

Pages: 102

Total Word Count: 47,222

I’ve also started using some apps to help me find problems with my story: specifically “tome” and “AutoCrit”.

I’ve been using tome sparingly, but it helps me clarify my goals for the story, character motivations, and basic flow.  To be honest, I’ve mainly been writing this stuff down and addressing inconsistencies with it.

AutoCrit, on the other hand, I’ve started using at the start of this year.  I upload the document, analyze it in various parts, and the program tells me what my plot points are for each chapter, inconsistencies, plot threads that remain unexplored, and character points that have been and need to be addressed.  There are things that AutoCrit gets wrong, and items that it doesn’t quite understand correctly, but overall it helps me identify problems with the story as I write (though when I upload incomplete chapters, it is annoying when it points out that threads I’m working on are not resolved).

Regarding the story itself, chapters 8 and 9 shift the focus from the main character, Vincent, to a couple of the supporting characters.  I might edit how these chapters flow by the time I release chapters 0 and 1, since it’s a little jarring as of now.  We’ll see.

I am PAINFULLY aware that I am late on this post, so apologies in advance.  I still have at least two reviews to complete for content this month, so stay tuned for those.

I have a Ko-Fi!

That’s right, folks! I have made a Ko-Fi for donations, in case anyone is feeling generous towards the advancement of my webnovel “Hell/Dolls”!

Because I’m an idiot and cannot read directions, here is the link:

Anime Review: Special Review

WHAT? THIS IS NOT ANIME!

Yes, this review is a little different.  Today, I want to spread a series that some of you know or may have already watched.

Hazbin Hotel.

I’m aware that this show is definitely not for everyone, but I feel like it’s a show that should be discussed for one reason or another.  It has some very specific messages, and some that are not as clear, but overall the show is an interesting experience.

I’ll be using the anime scoring system that I normally use, even though this isn’t anime – because it’s an animated series with musical numbers, a specific art style, and dynamic characters, I think it fits enough criteria that I use to fit this model.

Spoilers ahead.

Prepare for Double Posts!

I know I haven’t been posting as often as I promised…

But for once, it’s because I was working on material for this!
This past month has been full of interesting things, and even more so, this season of media.  The anime lineup was top-notch, and (through word-of-mouth) I was able to get into some new games, which I plan to review soon.
So, hold on to your butts, because tomorrow and the next day, there will be posts regarding the anime lineups of this season and last (as well as the hype I have about 2018).  In addition, I plan to post two or three game reviews by November 25, so keep an we out for those!
Signing off,

Marcosias
